In The Valleys we have Legends in abundance - from the Green Lady at Caerphilly Castle, to the miners and ironworkers who made this area the first industrial nation. Nowadays we have fantastic sports people like World Champion Downhill Mountain Biker, Manon Carpenter, and voices like Kizzy Crawford and the Manic Street Preachers. To give you an insight into the diverse Legends of The Valleys, we are holding Legendary events across the region - try and visit as many as you can!
22-23 April - at Bedwellty House and Park, Tredegar, you'll discover the traditional myths and legends that have been passed from generation to generation, some are very dark, so for the younger children, there is a fairy trail around the Park.
22-23 April - at Cyfarthfa Castle and Park, Merthyr Tydfil, explore the story of the Iron King of Wales, Robert Thompson Crawshay, as well as the Mobinogion (which was translated by the wife of another ironmaster, Lady Charlotte Guest), and the story of Dic Penderyn, the Red Flag and the Merthyr Rising.
22 April and 29 April - in Blaenavon World Heritage Site. Start to find your own families legends with a Genealogy event at the Workmen's Hall (22 April) and step back into the early days of schooling, at the World Heritage Visitor Centre, which was the first school built by an ironmaster (29 April).
6 May - Rhondda Heritage Park, enjoy a legendary day at the mine, with walks, talks and fun activities which will take you back to a bygone age.
6 May - Caerphilly, the annual Caerphilly Food Festival will have a Legendary addition with story telling, re-enactments and a fantastic opportunity to "taste cheese" - Caerphilly, of course!
7 May - Bryngarw Country Park and Parc Slip near Bridgend, get in touch with our legendary nature - from the dawn chorus to bushcraft, as well as story telling for the whole family.
