July means one thing for Y Galeri Caerffili …..Barry Lewis and his sculptural menagerie and he returns next week with his annual summer display of wall hung and freestanding creatures constructed from obsolete items.
The unique vision behind Barry’s work is about the transformation of things you and I might throw away, from rusty spoons and old toasters to salvaged bike and car parts that have outlived their use. The Rhondda based sculptor has gained much recognition in the past for his ingenious collections and with some new additions this show is going to amaze visitors to the gallery during its run.
His new Robo Rhino bike has already made its debut on the streets of both York and Berlin to the delight of the general public and passing traffic. His escapades went viral on Facebook and is likely to generate even more interest in Caerphilly on Friday 28th July when Barry and his friends takes Robo Rhino, Stag Bol Bike, and Moose Cycle for a collective spin alongside the Castle. Not quite the Velethon but Barry Lewis with his collection of bikes is going to be a wonderfully bizarre vision. Barry will be on the Castle path opposite the gallery between 12noon and 2pm.
His exhibition goes on display in Y Galeri Caerffili from Tuesday 25 July until 2 September. Open Tuesday – Saturday, 10am - 5pm. free admission.
