Back by popular demand once again this year, a two-day event is planned at the family tourist attraction on Good Friday (April 14) and Saturday, April 15. Doors will be open 10.30am until 4.30pm on both days.

Themed activities will include an Easter Egg Hunt, Arts and Crafts, Face Painting, as well as Children’s Funfair Rides, Bouncy Castle, and all the regular attractions at Rhondda Heritage Park such as the Black Gold Experience, Energy Zone Play Area.

Rhondda Heritage Park, which is open all-year-round and attracts visitors from all over the world, offers a unique experience at an authentic coal mine in the heart of the South Wales Valleys.

It is a living testament to the once-thriving coal-mining communities and provides a fascinating insight into the rich culture and character of the area.

Retired coal miners guide visitors on the unique Black Gold Experience, a 40-minute journey around the former Lewis Merthyr Colliery site - and nobody knows the coal industry better than the guides as visitors marvel at their tales of life underground.

The Black Gold Experience includes a visit to the Lamp Room, where visitors collect their miner’s helmets and lamps, the original Court Yard, taking in the breathtaking sights of the historic Chimney Stack, which dominates the Rhondda Valley skyline, along with the original Pit-head Wheel and Winding Gear.

With ample parking on site, visitors can also pop into Cafe Bracchi, the new Italian-style cafe which recognises and celebrates the impact of the Italian communities who moved to the South Wales Valleys from their native homeland at the turn of the 20th Century.

Rhondda Heritage Park has been restored and created on the site of the former Lewis Merthyr Colliery, which ceased production in 1983. At the peak of its production, more than 1,160 people worked at the pit, producing around 1,250 tonnes of coal each day.

The Easter Egg-stravaganza takes place at the Rhondda Heritage Park on Friday, April 14, and Saturday, April 15. Gates will be open from 10.30am until 4.30pm on both days. Admission is £2.50 per child. Additional costs apply for the children’s funfair rides, face painting, bouncy castle and Black Gold Experience.
