Dorking, Edinburgh and Glasgow have experienced a dramatic rise in insurance premiums, according to MoneySupermarket.com.
Homeowners in Dorking, Surrey, have seen an average 46 per cent increase to the cost of home insurance premiums in the last 14 months, with cover rising from an average £119 to £174.
Residents of Edinburgh’s city centre and those living in Milngavie, Glasgow have witnessed increases of 45 and 40 per cent respectively.
On average, homes have been hit by a rise of six per cent.
Not surprisingly, Greater London postcodes have gone up the most, with five of the top 20 hardest-hit areas situated in or around the capital.
More instances of insurance fraud, repairs from extreme weather damage and increases in crime levels are thought to be the factors impacting upon premiums.
Julie Owens, head of home insurance at MoneySupermarket.com, said: “The cost of insuring homes in the UK is steadily on the increase. Unfortunately for consumers, things look set to get worse with the increase in prices unlikely to slow down in the coming years.”
