Kids can be a handful and tend to take up a lot of time, so giving them their ideal bedroom could be just what you need to get a bit of peace of quiet and provide them with what they require to stay happy. Whatever your child’s tastes, there are plenty of great home decorating ideas out there – read on to hear some of our suggestions.
Pick a theme
In order for your little one to enjoy spending time in their bedroom, you may want to give it a theme that suits their personality or interests. Think about what their favourite colour is and paint one or two walls that shade – especially if it’s bold and loud, as this will make the space bright and open.
Consider as well what films they like and who their role models are – for example, with a girl’s room you could put up posters or prints of Disney princesses, while with boys, pictures of superheroes could go down a treat.
Lots of storage
During their earlier years, kids end up accumulating what seems to parents to be an endless supply of presents and toys and after a while, you’ll find you’re running out of space to put them all.
That’s why, when you’re decorating your kids’ room, it’s important you include lots of storage options, as this will mean the clutter can be hidden away and the space will become tidier and more ordered. Whether you opt for a big wardrobe or boxes that you can stash away under the bed, the more storage you have for your youngsters’ belongings, the better.
Hard-wearing floor
When they’re at their most excitable, children can get pretty rowdy, so it’s important that you lay down a floor that is able to handle large amounts of foot traffic and activity.
Solid wood flooring is sure to be a reliable choice, as not only is it authentic, natural and warm, it is also extremely durable and no matter what your kids get up to, the surface will be able to withstand it. The material is bound to go with whatever other design choices you make and could survive years of use.
Young ones can often make a mess and you’ll love the fact the flooring – which can be cheaply bought from retailers like UK Flooring Direct – is easy to maintain and clean, unlike carpets that can stain easily.
Toys/crafts
For times when you’d like to spend some time with a friend or your partner, making sure your kids have plenty to occupy them in their bedroom is essential. If you fill the space with lots of different toys and games, they’ll be happy to be left alone for hours and they’ll cherish the time they can spend in their new room.
It may also be a nice touch to set up a crafts station in the corner of the bedroom, where little ones can paint and draw to their hearts’ content with friends. This is a much better idea than having somewhere for them to play video games, as it is more sociable and great for their imagination.
